ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support)
What is an ELSA?
At Blowers Green, we are proud to have trained ELSA practitioners (Emotional Literacy Support Assistants), Miss Parkes and Miss Bell, as part of our pastoral and wellbeing provision.
Developed by Educational Psychologists, the ELSA programme is a nationally recognised initiative designed to help children understand and manage their emotions so they can flourish both in school and in wider life.
Our ELSAs work with children who may benefit from additional support in areas such as:
- Understanding and managing emotions
- Building self-esteem and confidence
- Developing friendships and social skills
- Managing feelings such as anger, anxiety or worry
- Coping with change, transitions or difficult experiences
Our ELSA team provides both 1:1 and small‑group sessions tailored to each child’s needs. Using therapeutic strategies, play‑based approaches and structured emotional literacy activities, they help pupils develop resilience, confidence and self-awareness.
Working closely with class teachers, families and the wider pastoral team, our ELSAs ensure that emotional wellbeing is at the centre of learning. Their work supports our belief that every child should feel safe, understood and ready to learn — enabling them to truly belong, achieve and thrive at Blowers Green.
