Safeguarding
"Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is defined for the purposes of this guidance as: protecting children from maltreatment; preventing impairment of children’s mental and physical health or development; ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care; and taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes."
Pastoral Support
At Blowers Green Primary, the safety and welfare of every child is our highest priority. We are committed to maintaining a strong culture of vigilance, where every member of staff understands their safeguarding responsibility and acts swiftly to protect children from harm.
Safeguarding is everyone’s duty, and at Blowers Green, we go above statutory expectations. The Head Teacher and Deputy Head Teacher and the pastoral team lead are fully DSL-trained, ensuring that a Designated Safeguarding Lead is available at all times to support children, families, and staff.
All staff receive regular safeguarding training, including Dudley Local Authority Level 1 Child Protection, Prevent, and ongoing refresher sessions throughout the year. Our approach aligns fully with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) and Ofsted’s emphasis on safeguarding being embedded across every aspect of school life.
If you have any concerns about the safety or wellbeing of a child, please contact a member of our Safeguarding Team immediately.

Family and Behaviour Support
We recognise that strong families make strong learners. Our Family Support Worker, Miss Parkes, offers practical help and advice to parents and carers on:
- Accessing Early Help through Dudley Family Hubs
- Managing children’s behaviour at home
- Parenting programmes and family wellbeing
- Funding for free school meals or uniform grants
- Food bank vouchers, housing support, and referrals to partner agencies
Our behaviour support helps pupils overcome barriers to learning through 1:1 mentoring, nurture groups, ELSA, classroom support, lunchtime clubs. We have lots of links with other agencies too so if we can’t help, hopefully, we'll know someone who can!

Managing Medical Conditions and Treatment in School:
At Blowers Green Primary, we are committed to ensuring that every child’s health and wellbeing needs are met so they can thrive in school. We understand that some pupils require additional medical support, and we take great care to ensure that this is managed safely, sensitively, and in partnership with families and health professionals.
We are proud to have our own Mental Health First Aiders Miss Parkes and Miss Bell and First Aider at Work, Miss Parkes, who leads our approach to health and medical care in school. Mrs Parkes liaises directly with medical professionals to ensure that all medical care plans are accurate, up to date, and effectively shared with relevant staff

A significant proportion of our support staff are Paediatric First Aid trained, ensuring rapid support in the event of an injury or medical concern. In addition, all staff working in and alongside EYFS are Paediatric First Aid trained, enabling expert response to the needs of our youngest pupils.
All staff receive appropriate training to manage a wide range of medical conditions, including allergies, asthma, diabetes and epilepsy. Medication can be administered on school premises with prior written consent from parents or carers, ensuring pupils receive the care they need throughout the school day.
Through robust communication, clear procedures and a compassionate approach, we ensure that children with medical needs are fully included in school life and can belong, achieve and thrive alongside their peers.

Operation Encompass

Operation Encompass
Our school is proud to be part of Operation Encompass, a national safeguarding partnership between schools and the police.
What is Operation Encompass?
Operation Encompass is an early intervention partnership that supports children who may have experienced or been affected by domestic abuse.
When the police attend a domestic abuse incident, they will inform the school, usually before the start of the next school day, if a child at our school has been involved or may be affected.
This information is shared securely with a trained member of staff, known as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).
Why this is important
We know that children can be significantly affected by what happens at home, and that these experiences can impact their emotional wellbeing, behaviour and learning.
By receiving timely information, we can:
- Offer immediate understanding and support
- Provide a safe and nurturing environment
- Help children feel secure and ready to learn
- Respond to any additional needs sensitively and appropriately
What happens in school?
The information shared is confidential and is only used to ensure that we can support the child effectively.
Our trained safeguarding staff will:
- Monitor the child’s wellbeing
- Provide appropriate care, support and reassurance
- Ensure the child has a positive and supported school day
We do not investigate incidents—our role is to support the child.
How we teach our children.
At our school, we are committed to promoting positive wellbeing and safety through our Relationships and Health Education (RHE) curriculum, delivered through the Jigsaw programme.
Through this, children learn about healthy relationships, including how to build respectful friendships, recognise and manage their emotions, and understand the importance of kindness, empathy and consent.
Pupils explore themes such as making and maintaining friendships, dealing with conflict, understanding personal boundaries, and identifying trusted adults they can talk to.
As they progress through the school, children also learn about family relationships, respect for differences, and how to stay safe both offline and online, helping them to develop the knowledge and skills needed to form healthy, respectful relationships in the future.
Working together to keep children safe
Operation Encompass strengthens our safeguarding procedures and helps us work closely with other agencies to ensure the best outcomes for children.
It is part of our wider commitment to keeping every child safe, happy and supported in school.
